What is cognitive behavioural therapy?

CBT is a highly effective, clinically proven treatment for a broad range of mental health and psychological disorders. A collaborative process between client and therapist, CBT teaches you the skills to ‘remodel’ your thinking and behaviour in order to move past the problems you’re experiencing.

Cognitive behavioural therapy is a ‘talking therapy’, and is extremely effective not only for overcoming your unique and specific challenges, but also for preventing relapse – a short-term treatment for long-term gain.

What problems can CBT be used to treat?

CBT is the only evidence-based treatment that can facilitate healing and recovery from disorders and issues such as:

  • Depression, stress and anxiety
  • OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder)
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Drug and alcohol abuse
  • Eating disorders
  • Relationship problems

This list is by no means exhaustive, so if you require help with any other problem at all, please call our friendly and professional CBT therapists on 0207 0421 784, and we’ll be happy to offer our advice and assistance.

How do private CBT therapy sessions work?

Our flexible and tailored approach is designed to ensure that you receive the very best service from the therapist most suited to your individual needs. Your comfort and convenience is also essential, so we can offer cognitive behavioural therapy via:

During your first session, your therapist will provide a confidential and caring space where you can discuss the challenges you’re facing, and receive a full diagnosis and assessment of the problem.

From this, we’ll create a bespoke CBT treatment plan, which will usually consist of between 8 and 16 sessions, of approximately 50 minutes each.

During your CBT therapy sessions, you and your therapist will:

  • Identify thought processes and behaviours that contribute to and exacerbate your issues
  • Work together to understand the problems you’re facing
  • Explore tools of recovery and treatment for you to use in everyday life
  • Implement the skills you need to challenge unhelpful patterns in both thoughts and actions
  • Undergo experiments to test negative and damaging beliefs and behaviours
  • Help you to understand and manage difficult emotions
  • Work together to ensure you’re equipped with the tools you need to prevent relapse
